Kite Pattern in a Natal Chart: Example

A worked natal chart example for kite aspect pattern natal chart.

This kite aspect pattern natal chart is drawn on the wheel below. A kite is a grand trine with a fourth planet opposing one point and sextiling the other two, adding a directed spine to the triangle. Saturn at 5.2° Scorpio in the 1st house, Neptune at 4.7° Pisces in the 5th house, Jupiter at 7.5° Cancer in the 9th house, and Moon at 6.1° Taurus in the 7th house form this pattern. Aspects: Saturn trine Neptune (orb 0.5°); Jupiter trine Neptune (orb 2.8°); Jupiter trine Saturn (orb 2.3°); Moon opposition Saturn (orb 0.9°); Moon sextile Neptune (orb 1.4°); Moon sextile Jupiter (orb 1.4°).

How to spot it

  1. Start with a grand trine. In this chart the triangle includes Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, and Moon.
  2. Find a fourth planet opposing one trine point and sextiling the other two.
  3. That fourth planet is the kite's spine — the directed outlet of the triangle.
  4. In this example the points sit in houses 1, 5, 7, 9 — map yours with Placidus cusps, not whole-sign counts.

What it means

A kite is traditionally read as a grand trine with direction. The opposing planet gives the triangle a spine, so the ease of the trines has a preferred outlet. That outlet is not guaranteed success; it is a preferred channel. Read the opposed planet's house (Placidus) as the focus of expression. If the 'spine' planet is weak or heavily afflicted, the kite may promise more than it delivers. As always, one pattern does not rewrite the whole natal chart.

Variations

Common misreadings

  • A grand trine alone is not a kite. The fourth planet and its opposition/sextiles are required.
  • The kite's spine is not automatically the chart ruler.

FAQ

What is a kite in a natal chart?
A kite is traditionally read as a grand trine with direction. The opposing planet gives the triangle a spine, so the ease of the trines has a preferred outlet.
How do I see a kite in my own birth chart?
Cast a tropical natal chart with Placidus houses, turn on the aspects the pattern needs (including minors for yods and Thor's hammer), and compare against the checks on this page. In the example chart the tightest listed orb is 0.5° on the trine between Saturn and Neptune.
Is the Kite Pattern in a Natal Chart example a real person's chart?
No. Example chart W-019 is a synthetic example built so the configuration is visible. In the example chart the tightest listed orb is 0.5° on the trine between Saturn and Neptune. Use the free natal chart tool to check your own placements.
